We are pleased to note the following improvements since 2005 and are pleased to be reminded of any that we have omitted.

  • Asper's Casino opened.
     
  • The Church bar & restaurant opened.
     
  • All Saints coffee shop opened.
     
  • Lloyds TSB had a £1.25M refurbishment.
     
  • The Grand Hotel re-opened as a Travel Lodge.
     
  • Café Nero opened in Abington Street.
     
  • Costa opened in Fish Street.
     
  • Nando’s opened in Wood Hill.
     
  • The Market Square enjoyed a £1 million regeneration.
     
  • Market Square events programming was created.
     
  • The annual Market Square Music Festival was established in 2006 and has run successfully ever since.
     
  • The Royal and Derngate  had a £14m refurbishment
     
  • 78 Derngate has been renovated and opened.
     
  • Central Library received a £180k refurbishment.
     
  • Gold Street received a £6m refurbishment.
     
  • Prezzo opened in Wood Hill.
     
  • Tesco Metro has opened @ Woolworths.
     
  • The creation of the Northampton Town Centre BID. (business improvement district) www.northamptonbid.co.uk This limited company is solely funded by the businesses that are located inside the inner ring road.
     
  • www.lovenorthampton.co.uk  has been created and is a very positive promoter of the town centre.
     
  • The Central Museum has been refurbished and enlarged.
     
  • County Hall has been refurbished to serve as the entry into the county council offices and as a Tourist Information Centre.
     
  • Northampton in Bloom has become a great success, and greatly enhances the feel of town centre.
     
  • The Safari animals on display gave added value to Northampton in Bloom.
     
  • The NBC have relocated many of their staff back to the town centre @ The Guildhall.
     
  • The North Gate Bus Station was opened. The jury is still out on this
     
  • The Errol Flynn Film House was opened.
     
  • The Phipps Albion Brewery opened in Kingswell Street.
     
  • In 2013 the NBC Cabinet reaffirmed the Town Centre as a major strategic priority and agreed to add it as an improvement project to Northampton Alive, the Council’s regeneration programme.
     
  • The NBC Cabinet proposed that the council should host a Town Centre Summit on September 20th 2013, chaired by Stephen Church, with the purpose of involving all partners and stakeholders in shaping the Town Centre’s future. The report was published in March 2014. It is unclear how many of the suggestions received by this report have been incorporated into the town centre action plan.
     
  • The opening of the middle section of Abington Street creating 40 short-stay parking places.
